FDIS Accreditation: Enhancing Fire Door Safety Standards with Lyons Fire Safety

The Fire Door Inspection Scheme (FDIS) is a prestigious independent certification body in the UK. Its mission is to bolster fire door safety knowledge and establish a nationwide register of competent fire door inspectors.

At Lyons Fire Safety, we are proud to have successfully completed the FDIS accreditation process, solidifying our commitment to excellence in fire door inspections. Here, we’ll talk about the scheme, why it’s important to always work with accredited inspectors, and, what this means in real terms for our clients.

In need of fire safety services? – We carry out fire door inspections, and, maintenance and installation of passive fire protection. Get in touch if you require our services, we operate in the UK, are fully accredited, and offer cost-effective services for all our clients. Don’t hesitate to give us a call.

The FDIS Diploma: Comprehensive Fire Door Safety Education

So, what is it…?

The FDIS Diploma is an online educational program that covers various aspects of fire door safety.

You can learn more, here, from their website – Why FDIS – Fire Door Inspection Scheme

For us at LFS, the diploma equips our team of professionals at Lyons Fire Safety with comprehensive knowledge. However, this first step alone does not qualify individuals as certified inspectors.

FDIS Certificated Inspector Course: Rigorous Training and Assessment

During the process to become FDIS Certified Fire Door Inspectors, we had to complete the FDIS Certificated Inspector Course. This involves:

  • Initial application and approval by FDIS.
  • Completing the FDIS Transition Module and portfolio assessment (Stage 1).
  • Undergoing an on-site assessment and written examination (Stage 2).
  • Final approval and certification under the FDIS Competent Person Certification Scheme.

Certified inspectors must follow the FDIS Scheme Directives. This includes affixing FDIS labels, maintaining insurance, participating in audits, and submitting annual CPD records and inspection reports.

So, what does this mean for our clients?

Certificated Inspectors undergo comprehensive training, covering relevant regulations and standards related to fire door components. Their knowledge extends beyond basic requirements, allowing them to provide more accurate and thorough inspections.

By elevating their knowledge to that of a certificated professional, inspectors contribute to enhancing life-safety measures in buildings across the UK. Clients can trust that their fire doors are being assessed by competent individuals who prioritise safety.

The FDIS Competent Person Certification Scheme provides clients and end users with confidence and evidence that inspections are carried out by fully trained and competent inspectors. This certification assures clients that their fire doors meet necessary standards.

Certificated Inspectors understand the importance of accurate inspections. They provide clients with high-quality feedback and professional reports, helping them make informed decisions about fire door maintenance and compliance.

FDIS Competent Person Certification Scheme: National Recognition

The FDIS Competent Person Certification Scheme is a nationally recognised program. It ensures fire door inspectors meet the required standards of competence. Certified inspectors are listed on the FDIS National Register.

The FDIS National Register provides a transparent way for clients to verify the status of an FDIS Certified Fire Door Inspector. By accessing this register, building owners and managers can confirm that LFS’s inspectors meet the required standards and are part of a nationally recognised scheme.

The Importance of FDIS Accreditation for Our Clients

By achieving FDIS accreditation, Lyons Fire Safety demonstrates our commitment to fire door safety excellence. Our clients can rest assured that our inspections, maintenance, and remedial work are carried out by highly trained and competent professionals. This accreditation provides peace of mind, knowing that their fire doors are in capable hands, ensuring compliance and safeguarding lives and property.

At Lyons Fire Safety, we take pride in our commitment to delivering the highest standards of fire safety services to our clients. That means we make use of cutting-edge technologies like the FireDNA App but also by our FDIS accreditation as certified fire safety inspectors.

The FireDNA App, leveraging “Golden Thread” technology, empowers us to efficiently manage and maintain fire safety compliance data for passive fire products throughout their lifecycle. This cloud-based tool enables us to capture, store, and share critical digital data on essential fire prevention components like fire doors, dampers, seals, barriers, and curtains.

By accessing and updating product information using QR codes and NFC tags, we streamline the fire safety management and compliance process, ensuring accountability, traceability, and transparency every step of the way. And of course, our FDIS accreditation further reinforces our expertise and commitment to upholding the highest industry standards. The synergy between the tech we use and our FDIS accreditation creates a powerful combination that benefits our clients immensely.

Through the FireDNA App, we can efficiently document and manage the installation, maintenance, and inspection of passive fire products, ensuring they meet all manufacturer guidelines and regulatory requirements.
